PORVORIM: Two thieves posing as customers stole gold ornaments worth Rs 2 lakh from a jewellery shop at Mapusa market.
According to Mapusa police, the incident took place sometime after 9.15 am when Prabha Vernekar opened his shop, Praneeta Jewellers, and began removing his ornaments from the safe to place them in the showcase.
Vernekar told police that a customer entered his shop and wanted to have a look at some gold pendants, to be used at a house-warming function. After inspecting some pendants, the customer left the shop.
About 15 minutes later, another customer went to the shop and also expressed his desire to see some gold pendants. After seeing a few ornaments, he also left the shop without making any purchase.
At about 12 noon, a third customer visited the shop and sought to have a look at some gold ornaments. As Vernekar began to display some ornaments, he realised that some of them had gone missing.
He then alerted the technician maintaining the CCTV footage revealed that the two earlier customers had stolen seven pendants worth about Rs 2 lakh.
Vernekar lodged a complaint with Mapusa police in the matter.
