PONDA: A major traffic jam paralysed the Khandepar-Ponda National Highway for two hours after a truck collided with a scooter, leaving a local youth named Francis injured. The incident occurred when a truck traveling from Ponda towards Khandepar collided with Francis’ scooter.
Francis, who sustained injuries in the accident, has been shifted to the Sub-District Hospital for medical attention. The collision resulted in long queues of trapped vehicles, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
Rocky Dias, a local resident in Khandepar, highlighted the need for proper care in managing traffic diversions during widening work at Khandepar. Additionally, he called for adequate illumination on the highway to prevent accidents.
The ongoing widening work for the approach road to the Khandepar bridge is currently underway, causing disruptions in the area. Despite the inauguration of the new bridge in 2018, work on the approach road only commenced last month. Motorists said the authorities should be more proactive in implementing safety measures and efficient traffic management during road construction projects.
