CALANGUTE: Two Indian tourists bore the brunt of rough seas at the Calangute beach yesterday as they were injured while swimming over the weekend while livesavers saved three others from meeting with a watery grave at Candolim.
Drishti Marine, in a statement, said two beachgoers, one male and one female from Mumbai, part of a large group standing in the shallow water, were hit by a strong wave and dislocated their knees.
In another incident, a 58-year-old man from Mumbai also fell victim to a strong wave, falling and dislocating his ankle. First aid was administered to the victims, who were then shifted to hospital.
Despite Goa’s beaches being off-limits for swimming due to the ongoing monsoons which witnesses huge waves and strong currents, tourists still venture into the water.
A triple rescue incident took place over the weekend at Candolim beach. A family consisting of two women and a teenager from Navi Mumbai who were dragged out to sea by strong waves were rescued by lifesavers.
