Two jailed for carrying explosives

PONDA: The Additional District and Sessions Court at Ponda on Friday convicted and sentenced Shivappa Ganpat Kale, aged 28, Dharma Bhagwan Chavan alias Kale, 27, both natives of Hubli-Karnataka to two years rigorous imprisonment for possessing and carrying 80 locally made explosives in passenger bus endangering lives of passengers in 2009.
Bela N Naik, Additional Sessions Judge Panjim, at Ponda, has also fined the accused Shivappa and Dharma, both natives of Hubli-Karnataka to Rs 1,000 each under Section 5 (a) of Explosive Substance Act for possession and carrying the explosives. In default of the payment of fine, the accused would have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for two months 
Both the accused have to pay another fine of Rs 700 each under Section 286 of Indian Penal Code. In default, they would have to undergo further simple imprisonment for a month each.
