Two Japanese reconnaissance jets in Goa for joint exercise with Indian Navy

VASCO: Two Japanese P-3C Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft arrived in Goa to participate in a joint exercise with Indian Navy. 
In October 2017, two P-3C Orion aircraft had conducted exercise with Indian Navy first time. This is third year in a row that the Japanese aircraft detachment conducting conducted joint exercise with Indian Navy off Goa
Indian Naval sources informed that the Japanese aircrafts landed at Dabolim Airport at 4.30 pm on April 23. The 34-members detachment was commanded by Commander Shinji Akamatsu of Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force. The specialty of these aircrafts is involved in Anti-Piracy Patrol at Gulf of Aden in the Arabian Sea.
Sources further revealed that in May 2018, two P-1 aircraft conducted exercise with Indian Navy. The present detachment undertook an exercise involving Indian Navy’s Boeing P8-I Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft and a submarine on April 24.
Kawasaki Corporation under license from Lockheed Martin of the United State has manufactured the Japanese P-3C Orion aircraft. It can carry anti-ship missiles, bombs and torpedoes. It can also carry sonobuoys to detect presence of submarines. Aircraft has maximum speed of 750 kilometers per hour with a range of 8,900 kilometers.
