CANACONA: Two Olive Ridley turtles visited Rajbagh and Galgibagh beach early Tuesday morning for nesting and laid a total of 213 eggs.
Nature and Olive Ridley turtle lovers heaved a sigh of relief over the landing of the first flippered visitor during this season to the Galgibagh beach early morning on Tuesday which left the beach after digging a pit in the sands and laying 85 eggs.
In another separate nesting, an Olive Ridley visited the Rajbagh beach in the wee hours of Tuesday and laid a total of 128 eggs.
Agonda beach which is reserved for turtle nesting saw the 9th visitor of the season on Monday night and laid 123 eggs.
Sources at wild life and forest department at Hathipaul said that till date 11 Olive Ridleys have visited the beaches in Canacona laying a total of 1136 eggs. The eggs which are soft and white in colour are of the size of table tennis ball and are picked up hygienically by the forest guards stationed at these beaches and transferred to the enclosed hatcheries at the beaches in Galgibagh and Agonda and after hatching the hatchlings are released into the sea.
