Two power couples lose while three emerge victorious in people’s court

Huge margin loss for Kavlekar-Savitri, Kiran Kandolkar-Kavita; Churchill, Valanka lose; Viswajit-Deviya Rane, Babush-Jennifer, Michael-Delilah win

PANJIM:  Sitting MLA of Quepem constituency Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar along with his wife Savitri Kavlekar who had contested from Quepem and Sanguem respectively, had to concede defeat in their respective constituencies. While Chandrakant Kavlekar lost by a margin of 3,443 votes against Altone D’Costa of Congress, independent (IND) candidate Savitri Kavlekar lost by a margin of 1,429 votes against Subhash Phaldessai of BJP.

Kiran Kandolkar of Trinamool Congress (TMC), who had contested from Aldona constituency lost by a margin of 5,673 votes while his wife Kavita Kandolkar who had contested on the same party ticket from Tivim constituency had to accept the defeat against Nilkanth Halarnkar of BJP with a margin of 2,018 votes. Kandolkar, who was also the president of TMC party in Goa, was defeated by Carlos Alvares Ferreira of Congress. 

While Vishwajit Pratapsingh Rane of BJP won with a huge margin of 8,085 votes against Revolutionary Goans supremo Tukaram Parab from Valpoi constituency, his wife Deviya Rane won with an equally huge margin of 13,943 votes against the AAP candidate Vishwajit Rane in Poriem. 

Sitting MLA of Panjim Atanasio Monserrate won against the independent candidate Utpal Manohar Parrikar by 716 votes while his wife who was also the sitting MLA of Taleigao constituency could succeed to retain her seat by defeating the Congress candidate Tony Rodrigues by 2041 votes.

Michael Lobo who had jumped into the Congress party from BJP could maintain his power by defeating Joseph Robert Sequeira of BJP by 4,979 votes in Calangute constituency while his wife Delilah Lobo suceeded to win from Siolim constituency against Vinod Palyekar by a lead of 9,290 votes.

In the Ponda taluka while the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) supremo Sudin Dhavlikar retained his seat at Marcaim, his brother Deepak Dhavlikar had to concede defeat at Priol against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and sitting MLA of Priol Govind Gaude by a marginal vote difference of 213 votes in spite of the oldest regional party being allied with the TMC party. 

The TMC allied National Congress party (NCP) leader Churchill Alemao lost against Venzy Viegas of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Benaulim by 1,271 votes. His daughter Valanka Natasha Alemao who had contested as TMC candidate lost against Ulhas Tuenkar of BJP with difference of 430 votes from Navelim constituency.
