Two rented rooms gutted at Calangute

CALANGUTE: Two rented rooms owned by one Krishna Parulekar were gutted in fire at Khobrawado in Calangute, on Thursday night. 

According to information received from the Pilerne Fire Station, on Thursday, the control room received a call at 9.40 pm informing that a house has caught fire.

Immediately, a team of Pilerne Fire Station headed by P N Mandrekar and comprising R N Naik, S R Parrikar, B A Gaude, Vishal Patil, R A Pandre and S G Shetye rushed to the spot. Upon reaching the spot, it was found that a LPG cylinder burst while another one was leaking. The team immediately began fire fighting operation. 

It took more than an hour for the team to douse of the fire completely. The fire team suspects that the cause of fire may be due to short circuit since the cylinder which was close to the refrigerator burst while the cylinder which was in use was as it is.

Two rooms gutted in the fire along with the cupboard having gold ornaments and clothes, a refrigerator and fans. One bed was also destroyed. The owner claimed a loss of around Rs 1 lakh.
