MARGAO: Two sarpanchas–Inacio Tereza from Paroda and Sabita Mascarenhas from Sarzora—will be ousted from their positions over the next two days in Salcete as they apparently drew ire of their respective MLAs as they not willing to overlook some illegalities.
Sarpanch of Paroda Inacio Tereza will be voted out as Sarpanch on April 8 as all the other six members of the seven member panchayat have signed the no confidence motion. “The no confidence motion against me is the MLA Clafasio Dias’ move who is angry with me because I clearly told him that I shall not canvass for him at the assembly elections in 2022 if he is the BJP candidate,” said Inacio.
He argued that Clafasio was elected as MLA because he was a Congress candidate and added that being loyal to the party he would not be able to canvass for him in future if he contests as a BJP candidate and added that he had told the MLA to dethrone him if he so desired.
However, the actual reason for the no confidence motion is believed to be the stern stand taken by Inacio Tereza against the illegal hill cutting in the village where plots are being illegally made and sold to migrants by a person known to be very close to the MLA.
At neighbouring Sarzora, Sarpanch Sabita Mascarenhas has been served with a no confidence motion signed by 4 of the seven panchayat members and the same will be discussed on April 7 where Sabita is likely to be ousted.
Sabita said this was a move to oust her because she was not willing to overlook illegalities even when they are committed by an elected panchayat member. “I have lodged a police complaint against one panchayat member for illegally cutting trees and another panchayat member has illegally constructed a house in a field,” she said.
asserting that she is committed to protect and preserve her village said she has now decided to contest the 2022 Assembly elections from Velim constituency.
