AAgainst the backdrop of opposition from few councillors, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida announced that two shacks have been allotted to Baina beach by the State government.
“These shacks will generate employment and will attract tourists, which is the need of the hour in the tough financial and high inflation times” said Almeida, while stating that they had asked for three shacks. He added that the shacks will attract more tourists and help generate employment and revenue.
He also thanked Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

When pointed out that in the recent council meeting, a few councillors were unhappy over bringing shacks at Baina beach, Almeida said it is the decision of the State government and not of any individual and reiterated his support to the shacks.
Councillor Leo Rodrigues had raised questions about the absence of basic amenities at Baina and opined that beautification work of the beach should be taken up in a well planned manner.
Another councillor Murari Bandekar had also raised objections, pointing out that many residential infrastructure had been demolished because of CRZ rules and questioned how then shacks could be set up. The councillors also raised safety concerns due to the ongoing flyover work
