CALANGUTE: A fire erupted shortly after midnight on Wednesday, engulfing a general store and a mobile phone shop adjacent to it in Betim. Personnel from the Porvorim Fire Station promptly responded to the scene and managed to contain the blaze, clearing the debris left in its wake.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was likely triggered by an electrical short-circuit. Despite the extensive damage caused to the properties, with losses estimated at Rs 1.5 lakh, there were no reported injuries.
