Two sr citizens injured as car hits 2-wheeler at Mapusa

MAPUSA: Two senior citizens from Siolim were injured when the  two-wheeler on which they were proceeding was hit by a car at Mapusa  on Tuesday.

According to the police, Henry Fernandes (70) and Philomena Fernandes  (72), both residents of Marna-Siolim, sustained injuries after their  two-wheeler was knocked down by a car allegedly driven by one Mantesh  Srikant Basangal (28), a native of Belagavi and currently residing at  of Orda-Candolim.

The accident occurred in front of Tata Consultancy Service HB, Mapusa,  when Mantesh was proceeding from Ganeshpuri-Mapusa to  Dattawadi-Mapusa.

The Mapusa police have registered a case against Mantesh for driving his car in a rash and negligent manner without ensuring proper care,  caution, endangering human life and also fleeing away from the spot  with his vehicle without providing medical assistance to the injured  persons and without informing police.

An FIR under Sections 279, 337 and 338 of IPC and Section 134 (A) (B)  of Motor Vehicle Act has been registered at the Mapusa police station.

 The case is being investigated by head constable U Gaonkar.
