Two structures on PWD land at Margao razed

MARGAO: After a three-year court battle, two structures which were on the acquired land of the Ring Road were demolished by PWD on Friday.
The demolition of these two structures has paved the way for the beginning of completion of the second phase of the Ring Road of Margao. The occupants of the house had appealed against the removal of the houses right from the Collectors office to the Supreme Court where at all levels the plea of the family was dismissed.
The demolition was carried out by the Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar. Meanwhile, it was told by officials that the Viegas family which has been the occupant of these structures has been refusing rehabilitation to the proposed transit camp in Rumdamol Housing Board for quite some time. The family has today finally agreed to stay in the proposed transit camp and the agreement to that effect will be signed.
The clearing of these structures now paves way for connectivity of the Ring Road right up till the heart of the city. However, the entire connectivity may have to wait as the houses behind Cine Lata are yet to be dealt with. As the plan of the Western bypass highway sees a dead end, this road, if completed till the last phase will help ease the traffic of the Margao town to a great extent.
