Two suicide cases reported at Savoi Verem, Dhavli

PONDA: A police constable and a higher secondary student allegedly committed suicide at Savoi Verem-Priol and at Dhavli-Ponda respectively

According to the Ponda Police, in the first case reported at Betalbhat, Savoi Verem, 36-year-old Suresh Sawant, a police constable attached to IRB, Ribandar, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his residential house. The incident came to light on Tuesday. 

The police are yet to ascertain the reason as to why the constable took such a drastic step. However, it is reportedly learnt that he was undergoing stress. Ponda police conducted he panchanama.

In the second incident reported at Cone-Dhavli, a 17-year-old higher secondary student Rounak Ashok Gaude allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday evening at his residence using a towel. 

The incident came to light when a family member noticed the body of Rounak hanging from the roof. The locals immediately rushed him to Ponda Sub District Hospital, however the doctor on duty declared him dead. 

Rounak was a Class XII science student and had participated in sports event including short put. 

He is survived by his elder brother, parents and grandmother. The villagers of Dhavli mourned over the incident. The police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the suicide. However, the police suspect that the student may have committed suicide due to mental stress. 

The Ponda Police informed that they are conducting a detailed inquiry into the matter. The final rites were performed today.
