COLVALE: Two accidents took place within 12 hours of each others, both involving tourist taxis. In both cases the tourists taxis were seen flouting the Motor Vehicle rules.
The first was a self-accident reported at Colvale involving a tourist taxi on Wednesday morning. The major accident took place on Colvale National Highway 66.
According to sources, the taxi driver was speeding on the highway towards Manohar International Airport, Mopa. Suddenly he lost control of his vehicle and veered off on the highway leading to his car turning turtle.
Local commuters rushed to the spot to help the taxi driver. Fortunately, no fatality was reported as the driver sustained minor injuries. Locals immediately took the injured driver to hospital for medical treatment.
This is the second accident reported within 12 hours involving the Goan taxis. The previous accident was reported at Old Patto Bridge, Panjim on late Tuesday evening between two taxis. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained in that accident also, but both vehicles reported minor damages. Despite knowing that it’s a no-entry area at Old Patto Bridge one of the taxi drivers drove through the bridge leading to a minor accident. In both cases, the taxi drivers were seen flouting the traffic rules and road safety that led to the accidents.
