Two trucks detained for illegal sand transportation

MARGAO: Residents of Corjuem-Curtorim detained two trucks on late Friday night for their alleged involvement in the illegal transportation of sand.

MARGAO:  Residents of Corjuem-Curtorim detained two trucks on late Friday night for their alleged involvement in the illegal transportation of sand.
Up in arms over the illegal sand extraction and transportation for many months now, the agitated residents later intimated the Maina Curtorim police, which later attached one of the trucks after taking the same to the police station. 
A local resident Domnic Pacheco claimed that while one of the trucks was laden with sand, the other one was empty. “This illegal sand extraction and transportation had been going on in Corjuem ward of Curtorim villager since the last many months. Though we have lodged complaints with various authorities, there is no stop to the illegal activity,” Domnic said, while demanding action against all those involved in the illegal sand extraction and transportation.
The action by the local residents came after the illegal activity continued unabated in the locality. The residents have threatened to the illegal sand transportation in the locality, saying the sand transportation pose danger to the lives of the local populace.
