VASCO: An 18-year-old maid from Zuari Nagar allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself, while the body of a 91-year-old woman was found floating in a well at Thana-Cortalim on Monday.
Speaking to Herald, Verna fire station officer Dilip Dicholkar informed that they received a call at about 4.40 pm stating a body of a woman was found floating in a well at Thana-Cortalim. The fire personnel rushed to the site and fished out the body of Catherine Barretto and handed it over to Verna police to refer it for an autopsy.
In another incident, an 18-year-old girl from Zuari Nagar allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a dupatta.
According to Verna police, the deceased was working as a maid in a flat near MES College at Birla. After the flat owner left for work on Monday morning, he received a call from his wife stating that the maid was not opening the door of their bathroom.
Police said the flat owner rushed to the flat and broke open the door of the bathroom and found the girl hanging from the ceiling from a dupatta.
Police further informed that the girl was rushed to GMC Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead on admission. After conducting the autopsy, the body was handed over to her family members to conduct final rites.
