PANJIM: People using the two-wheelers and cars are most at risk of road accidents compared to those using other vehicles. A compilation of motor accidents for the year 2018 released by the Transport Department reveals that maximum 2504 two-wheelers followed by 2469 cars were involved in the accident across different roads in the State.
The mortality rate is also high among the riders which constitute 145 death of riders while 37 are pillion riders.
Data with Herald reveals that out of total 3709 accidents, 248 are fatal, 243 grievous, 806 minor and 2412 are non-injury accidents.
The type of vehicles involved in the accident, besides two-wheelers and cars are, 164 bus, 111 mini bus, 370 trucks, 65 tankers, 120 tempos, 114 jeeps, 11 pickups, 45 three wheelers and 98 ‘other/unknown’ vehicles.
The information further states that 262 persons including 145 riders, 37 pillion riders, 7 drivers, 49 pedestrians, 4 cyclists and two others were killed in the accident last year while 346 received grievous injuries and 1203 had minor injuries.
