Two women duped in online fraud

PANJIM: Online frauds and cheating continue. Two cases have been registered by the cyber cell of Crime Branch recently in which two women were duped for Rs 18.62 lakh and Rs 14.73 lakh respectively.

PANJIM: Online frauds and cheating continue. Two cases have been registered by the cyber cell of Crime Branch recently in which two women were duped for Rs 18.62 lakh and Rs 14.73 lakh respectively. 
According to information furnished by the cyber cell, a St Inez resident was cheated to the tune of Rs 14.73 lakh whereas another woman from Kirpal Dabal was cheated to the tune of Rs 18.62 lakh after becoming friendly with a person on the social media. According to the complainants the incidents occurred in October and November respectively. 
Police said investigations are in progress and they suspect an international rackets. Police also said that the modus operandi of the accused is similar to one used in the past. One of the accused claimed that the man is from Spain and the other said he claimed to be is from UK, police said.
Recently in an online fraud, the wife of an Army Colonel was reportedly cheated to the tune of Rs 8 lakh and Crime Branch officials had arrested two Nigerian nationals from New Delhi.
