MARGAO: A two-year-old boy lost his life after being crushed by a speeding car in the Rumdamol housing board late Monday night. The accident caused a tense situation as locals searched for the driver, whose whereabouts were initially unknown. However, the police managed to prevent any law-and-order issues by taking custody of the driver and detaining him at the Maina Curtorim police station.
PI Ditendra Naik said that the victim, identified as Ahaan Mehboob Mulla from Rumdamol housing board, had accompanied his family to attend a function in the same area. Ahaan, the only son of his vendor parents, was playing outside one of the apartments when the speeding car hit him. He sustained head injuries and succumbed to them at the South Goa District Hospital
According to the complaint lodged by PSI Varshda Naik Dessai at the Maina Curtorim police station, the driver of the Swift car, identified as Irshad Ahmod Hanchinmani, 39, a resident of Davorlim, was charged under IPC Sections 279 and 304A. He was subsequently released on bail.
