Two years on, investigating agencies still clueless?

PANJIM: The CBI are still grasping at straws as it is confronted by the second anniversary of the infamous and dastardly rape of a minor schoolgirl in the toilet of a Vasco school.

While the perpetrator still roams around free, the country’s premier investigating agency has been reduced to releasing sketches and advertisements in the paper in a bid to find the accused.
It may be recalled that a minor girl was raped within the precincts of a prestigious school in the port town and the accused escaped without anybody even knowing about it.
After the joint investigations by Mormugao Police, Crime Branch and a special 15-member police squad could not make any headway, the case was then handed over to the CBI.
The incident had sparked off State-wide outrage and widespread protests across the port town, as citizens demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. The State government then initiated a number of measures to beef up security in schools across the State.
Recently, the Mormugao Police had arrested a clerk in another case of destruction of evidence.
The investigating agencies and the school management had faced criticism from various quarters for their handling of the incident.
While the mystery behind the two seemingly different sketches released by police is yet to be explained till date, the school had been regularly criticised by parents for providing evasive answers to their various queries. The school management, however, claimed to have undertaken a number of steps to ensure the safety of students in the aftermath of the sexual assault case.
The Vasco school incident on January 14, 2013 had angered the State and had led many schools across the State to review and beef up security in their premises. Moreover, authorities and NGOs had listed various recommendations and guidelines to ensure enhanced security of students in and around schools.
