PANJIM: Two Karnataka youth – a murder under trial and his accomplice – were arrested on Thursday for stealing a bike, with the anti-burglary squad of crime branch also investigating their involvement in other bike and automobile theft cases.
The thieves identified as Akshay Vernekar (21) and Darshan Ghate (22) were intercepted while they were moving on a stolen Yamaha FZS motorcycle which had a fake registration number plate.
In a press statement issued by the Crime Branch, the sleuths took the duo into custody for inquiry and found they had stolen the bike and fitted Goa registration number plate of a car. “The actual registration number of the bike was KA-30-Q-5178 belonging to Karwar resident Rajesh Banaulikar, who had filed a theft complaint with the local police station,” reads the press note.
During the investigation, the team also found Vernekar was recently bailed out in connection with a murder case, trial of which is underway at District Court in Bagalkot, Karnataka.
