Tyres of 11 ambulances deflated at GMC

PANJIM: Tyres of at least 11 108 Ambulances, parked in the Goa Medical College and hospital (GMC) premises were deflated on Saturday-Sunday, which the GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) blamed on striking workers.

The Bharat Mazdoor Sangh, Goa unit that joined the workers on peaceful protest at Azad Maidan, since over a month has rubbished allegations arguing GVK’s hand behind the incident.
The Agassaim police have registered a criminal offence against ‘suspected workers’ based on the GVK management’s complaint that besides deflating the tyres, diesel tanks of the ambulances were damaged, seats torn and some equipments were stolen. The management has estimated loss of Rs five lakh approximately.
“The GVK management has been making baseless allegations against the workers. How can the workers resort to such an act when they are on peaceful strike for more than a month?” in-charge of the BMS Goa Hridaynath Shirodkar told Herald.
He pointed out various discrepancies in the versions of the GVK by also claiming that while GMC premise has tight security, how the ambulances could have been targeted. “There are security guards even outside the GVK office. Was the security sleeping when these things happened?” he asked suspecting involvement of the GVK EMRI for the loss.
Notwithstanding the police complaint, the workers are adamant to continue the strike even as five employees are already on hunger strike.
