UC Seraulim, Arlem YA move into quarters

RAIA: Arlem Youth Association defeated Santa Cruz Society of Poitomado, Cuncolim, 5-4 via tie-breaker to march into the quarter-finals of 30th Mandopa Cup organised by Mandopa Sports Club at their ground.

Both teams played end to end contest and kept the crowd busy but Arlem Youth Association scored the first goal in the 25th minute when Patrick D’Souza gave a cross pass to Alleen Dias, who made no mistake to net in.

At half time, Arlem Youth Association were leading 1-0.

After resumption of second half, both teams tried to take control of the game and Arlem YA wasted opportunity to increase the lead and before the final whistle Santa Cruz Society levelled the score through the solo effort of Tushar Gaonkar, to end match in a 1-1 draw.

In the resultant tie-breaker, Arlem YA netted through Kifern Dias, Allen Fernandes, Sweden Barbosa and Ashlon Quadros, while for Santa Cruz Society of Poitomado Ravesh Velip, Shankar Gaunder and Warren Dias were on target.

Goalkeeper of Arlem Youth Association Alloy Vaz was adjudged as the man-of-the-match for his outstanding contribution and saving some goal mouth chances.

Earlier, United Club Seraulim blanked United Club Benaulim 3-0 to enter into the quarter-finals. Mohammad Shail opened the account for United Club Seraulim in the 12th minute.

Changing over, UC Benaulim tried to find the equaliser but Victor Fernandes and Junad Khan shoots were blocked by Seraulim goalkeeper in the 36th and 40th minute of play.

As match progressed, UC Seraulim scored two more goals through Keith Rodrigues and Gladston Braganza in the 42nd and 53rd minute of play.

Mohammad Shail of United Club of Seraulim was awarded the man-of-the-match by Avelino Silva, general secretary of the club.
