UCC to hold dharna for Chorao bridge today

CHORAO: United Citizens of Chorao (UCC) will hold a dharna at the Azad Maidan, Panjim, on Tuesday at 9.30 am to demand the construction of a bridge at Chorao.

It will also request the government to immediately implement a land acquisition law similar to that of Tamil Nadu to sort out the problems being faced by the government.
UCC has stated that the BJP, during the last Assembly election, had promised to lay the foundation stone for a bridge within six months and to construct the bridge within two years of coming to power. UCC stated that almost four years have passed, but the government has failed to keep its promise. UCC also stated that Chorao residents, at three gram sabhas in the last year, had resolved to hold a special gram sabha, but they were unable to do so due to pressure from certain people. It also claimed that the villagers’ resolution had been thrown out and they were being suppressed with the help of the police, which was completely undemocratic.
UCC president Shrikrishna Haldankar stated that the dharna would be peaceful and the people would demand the implementation of a new land acquisition law in the ongoing Assembly session as well as the construction of the Chorao Bridge. He appealed to the residents to participate in the protest.
 to get their demand fulfilled.
