UGDP demands arrest of cops in Cipriano death

The United Goans Democratic Party has demanded the immediate arrest of the policemen responsible for the arrest, assault and who were the last in charge of Cipriano.
UGDP Secretary General Adv Anacleto Viegas said the news that three policemen are placed under suspension is tomfoolery and termed it as a plain eyewash. He also demanded the arrest of the woman who hobnobbed with the police to arrest Cypriano.
“Least these crimes by the men in uniform are not repeated. The belligerence of the guardian of the law must be nipped in the bud, UGDP has been in the forefront to demand the rule of law prevail in the State as in the past some of its activists and leaders have been mercilessly beaten by the guardian of law”, he said.
Adv Viegas said the reliance of or the long wait for medical report is sheer nonsense.
 “The Supreme Court has time and again held that medical evidence is never the last word in a crime. That injuries were found on late Cipriano and death resulted after his arrest is sufficient to arrest the assailants in a cognizable offence. The investigation and interrogation must follow the initial arrest. The attempt to protect the criminals is so obvious, that UGDP will no more stand the silly explanations. Whether Cypriano was sick or otherwise is a moot question as his death was a sequence to his arrest and assault”, he said.
Saying that a criminal is a criminal and must be dealt with in accordance with law, he demanded the arrest and detention of the woman and the policemen for interrogation and investigation of the most dastardly crime by the upholders of the law.
