MARGAO:  With the State BJP government being exposed and censured in the matter of reservation of wards to five municipal councils, the Goa United Democratic Party on Saturday demanded that the Directorate of Municipal Administration and State Election Commission should be divested of their charges and even dismissed immediately, if one goes by the recent Supreme Court order in the matter of conducting the municipal elections in the State.

“There is no iota of doubt that the Supreme Court came down heavily on the State government exposing the manipulative politics of the BJP which has no scruples whatsoever in interfering with the civic elections process, thus destroying the very democratic fabric of the SEC,” said Dr Jorson Fernandes, UGDP president.

“Undoubtedly, the Apex Court verdict is a landmark judgement not only for Goa but for the entire country and as such, it is a historic one. It is a big slap on the BJP government which must at one time have thought that the SC would not interfere with the election schedule once declared by a statutory and most important Constitutional body,” said Dr Jorson.
