SANGUEM, JULY 11
Residents of Uguem-Sanguem have complained of high level of turbidity in the drinking water supplied to them since the last many days.
Since the last many months, residents of Uguem have been regularly complaining of muddy water being supplied to them. On one such occasion, villagers had resorted to an agitation before the office of PWD Sanguem to highlight the problems faced by them given the muddy water supplied to them.
The villagers as a proof had even shown to the Assistant Engineer the water bottles filled with high level of turbid water.
The Assistant Engineer had subsequently assured of looking into the problems faced by the villagers while further assuring an early solution in the matter. Later for some time, the problem faced by the villagers was solved to some extent and the villagers were provided with potable and clean water supply.
A couple of months later, the problem had cropped up once again in the village and the villagers had once again complained to the department seeking immediate testing of the water supplied to the villagers.
Later, a team was deputed to the village and samples were drawn from the tap water. But what followed from the test conducted by the team from the water supply department was not made known to the villagers. But the quality of water supply was once again improved with the villagers getting clean water supply.
“However over the last few days, the quality of the water supplied to the villagers is worsened to a great extent. The water supplied to the villagers is not only turbid but it muddy,” informed a villager.
Complained another resident: “The water supplied is completely muddy and cannot be used even for bathing, leave aside using for cooking and drinking purpose.” The problem is particularly faced in the evening hours.
“The problem the villagers informed continues for about five minutes all of a sudden and is than followed with clean and potable supply of drinking water. After a gap of another few hours, once again muddy water is supplied and this continues for five to six times in a day or at times more. This has been happening since the last many days,” informed a villager.
The villagers have urged the department for immediate testing of the pipeline and improve the quality of water supplied to the villagers in the interest of the health of the locals and prevent water borne diseases from affecting the villagers.
