UGWF wants erring cops dismissed
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, JAN 22
The United Goans Welfare Front has demanded suspension of the police personnel involved in the custodial death of Cypriano Fernandes and terminate the erring cops for misusing police power.
Demanding prosecution of the policemen as per law, the UGWF requested Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to look into the police misuse and abuse of power against citizens, saying that Goa Police personnel have miserably failed to perform and are indulging in various illegal activities due to a collapsed police organisation.
The NGO pointed out that police personnel play double standard while initiating law against common citizens, by first registering FIR followed by investigations.
“For the police personnel, preliminary investigations come first and then the case is swept under the carpet”, the NGO said, and demanded transfers of police officers every two years of police officers who have been serving in one police station for years under one pretext or other.
UGWF General Secretary Socorro D’Souza has said he NGO has served a notice on the Chief Secretary, Special Home Secretary and Inspector General of Police to withhold any promotions of police officers, PI Santosh Desai, PSI Navlesh Desai and PI Rajendra Prabhudessai in connection with the alleged conspiracy along with SP Shekar Prabhudessai to implicate the activists in a false case and the resultant police excesses.
In the notice, the activists said they will be forced to file appropriate legal proceedings against the State if any promotions of these police officers are during the pendency of the criminal petition.
