MARGAO: Taking into consideration the huge Goan population, the Complex Fraud Team of Wiltshire Police, UK, recently issued a circular in Konkani in Roman script, pertaining to some elections and making the public aware about proxy voting, besides helping the public on such types of frauds.
This circular had been issued to create awareness among the citizens, who are of Goan origin staying over there.
This circular in Konkani in the UK has brought joy on the faces of the Konkani lovers in Goa.
According to the notice issued in Konkani, it can be understood that it pertains to some elections.
It is to make the public aware about proxy voting, besides helping the public on such types of frauds.
Reacting to this development, several citizens and Konkani lovers have expressed happiness.
Rodney D’Souza, said that it is a proud moment for the Goans and Goa at large as the authorities in UK have to issue their circulars in Konkani, the mother tongue of Goa.
“Yes, it is a known fact that the presence of Goans is felt globally, including a large number of the population working in the UK. We must feel proud of our Konkani language,” he stated.
Expressing joy over the circular in Konkani that has been going viral on social media for the last few days, Jose Dias, a senior citizen, who had once worked in the UK informed OHeraldo one can find Goan in large numbers and many have managed to occupy highest positions in several companies.
“Authorities over here are taking seriously the issues pertaining to the elections, mostly with regard to proxy voting. This circular in Konkani would have been issued for the first one, as I have never heard about the same for the past several years,” he informed.
He further said that this is a clear message to Goans staying in Goa too, that the importance of their mother tongue cannot be ignored.
