PERNEM: Umesh Gadekar was elected unopposed as the new Sarpanch of Morjim village panchayat on Thursday.
The post of the Sarpanch was vacant since July 28 after the then sarpanch Surekha Shetgaonkar had tendered her resignation to pave way for the new sarpanch as per the mutual understanding among the members.
During this period, the deputy Sarpanch Pawan Morje officiated as the acting sarpanch.
On Thursday, a special meeting was called in the Panchyat office to elect the new sarpanch and since Gadekar was the only one in the fray for the post, the presiding officer declared him elected unopposed.
