PANJIM: In a major relief to the parents, the State Government has decided not to permit any school fee hike for the current academic year 2021-22 to private schools.
Directorate of Education (DoE) in a circular issued on Wednesday has directed management of all the unaided primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in the State not to hike school fees for the current academic year .
“In order to maintain equality the government has decided not to permit any fee hike for 2020-21 and to retain the same fee structure as of the last year,” Director DoE Bhushan Savaikar said in the circular.
The department said that the matter with regards to fees of unaided schools in Rajasthan was even heard by the Supreme Court.
Savaikar said that during the present COVID-19 crisis, the department was requested to intervene in the matter of fees levied by the unaided schools.
Last year too, the government had directed all unaided schools not to hike fees and those who were granted permission for the same, were revoked.
Goa’s private schools charge fees ranging from Rs 1-1.5 lakh, every year, per child, with annual hike in most cases.
Along with waiving off activity fees, the schools are directed not to collect any transportation charges until the transportation actually commences.
