MARGAO: Asking the government to review the advertisement of Goa University, which allegedly dilutes the statutes on domicile for Goans and Konkani, an unapologetic Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai has asked Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to make a statement on the issue.
Sardesai said that with or without power the party will not compromise even an iota on the issue of domicile and Konkani dilution. He also said he is not at all apologetic on the statement he made of ‘weaponising youth’ in the domicile matter.
“I am not apologetic about my statement. If the government has to take a step forward then the government has to review that advertisement but there is no way that we are going to compromise or step back on this issue,” Sardesai said.
He also belittled the statements of Minister Mauvin Godinho, saying, “It is an irony that the Deputy Chief Minister is being given advice by the junior-most minister in the cabinet and this advice is unsolicited,” he said.
“Firstly, it happens to come from a person who happens to be the only politician in Goa to have been questioned by the Election Commission. Advice is unsolicited and I have spoken to Dr Pramod Sawant and Satish Dhond and I don’t think this is their party view,” Sardesai said.
He added, “My party has a very strong view when it comes to protecting the interest of the sons of the soil and it is not something we are apologetic about. I have said that domicile and Konkani cannot be diluted in Goa under any cost and this is our party ideology. Just because we are in alliance with a national party we are not going to dilute our ideology.”
Sardesai said there is a compromise on the issues in protection of Goenkarponn. “Normally, national parties don’t like regionalistic sentiments. Now, let Chief Minister come on record with his view on the advertisement that was issued by Goa University diluting the status of domicile and diluting essential Konkani,” he said.
Commenting on his statement of weaponising the youth wing, Sardesai said, “We are equipping the youth to fight and take action who is the biggest victim of this conspiracy.”
