BICHOLIM: The future of the MBBS students who returned from Ukraine seem to be uncertain with no hope of the war between Russia and Ukraine coming to an end.

Rupal Gosavi from Mayem in Bicholim was the first student to return to Goa from war-hit Ukraine and she has no clue as to when the situation in Ukraine would normalise.

“The situation in East Ukraine is very bad and we don’t know whether we would be able to complete our education back in Ukraine. It all depends upon the University and probably it would take months for the situation to normalize.”

Rupal was studying MBBS at Ternopil in west of Ukraine and she says that the government of India has done a lot to help the stranded students in Ukraine. “Because of the Indian government we were able to get five days transit visa free of cost even the flight and buses were free it is because of this that from Romaniya we were able to get back to India” Rupal says.

MBBS education in Russia and other countries is cheaper as compared to private Indian colleges.  This is the reason why many Indian students go to Russia and other neighbouring countries.

“The six-year course costs around Rs 30-40 lakh in Ukraine while the same in private colleges in India crosses one crore rupees,” Rupal explained.

Concerned about her, Rachel’s mother wants her daughter to seek admission in India to complete her further education.
