According to Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) officials, “The works at the stadium are almost ready. The painting and final touches are currently underway.”
Sports Authority of Goa ’s Engineering Wing at the Fatorda stadium informed that the work of the stadium will be ready by Tuesday.
“We have around 20 agency staff for painting and other works of the stadium working day in, day out here and due to this, we have managed to complete 90% work till date,” informed an engineer.
“The doping control room, dressing room, match referee room and others are below the VIP stand” he added.
The stadium works have been executed at Rs 2.7 crore and done as per FIFA requirements. This work is also being done with an eye on the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be played in India with matches in Goa too.
The event will be the 17th edition of the Asian Football Confederation U-16 championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by AFC for the national teams of Asia.
The tournament, which will be held in India, is scheduled between September 15 and October 2.
A total of 16 teams will participate. The changes and alterations have been done based on the suggestions and mandates by the FIFA for the Fatorda stadium.
The four semi finalists will gain a ticket to U-17 FIFA World Cup to be held in 2017 in India as the Asian Football Confederation representatives.
India has qualified automatically as hosts.
