Underage boy dies in two-wheeler mishap, police books mother for negligence

MARGAO: A 16-year-old boy was killed in a motorcycle accident at Assolna on Thursday night, while the 22-year-old pillion rider, identified as Akash Pujari, sustained injuries. As the deceased teenager was riding a two-wheeler without a valid driving licence, the police booked his mother for causing death due to negligence.

According to Cuncolim PI Diogo Gracias, the two boys were travelling from Betul to Seraulim, and were crossing Assolna market at around 9 pm. The accident took place when the minor lost control over the motorcycle near the Assolna Police Out Post. The motorcycle skidded and collided with a stack of bricks before hitting the stump of a cut tree. Both youth sustained injuries and were rushed to the South Goa District Hospital for treatment.

Tragically, the minor succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, Akash Pujari is currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College, Bambolim.

Police said that they will record the statement of the pillion rider, Pujari, to gather more details about the accident. The motorcycle involved in the accident has been seized and kept at the Cuncolim police station for further inspection.

Pi Gracias said that a case has been registered under Section 304 A of the IPC and sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. The complaint alleges that Angela Fernandes of Seraulim allowed her son, a minor and a child in conflict with the law, to ride the Bajaj Pulsar Motorcycle without a valid driving licence, leading to the accident. The investigation is being conducted by PSI Suhas Velip.
