Traffic police in Salcete have intensified enforcement following a sharp rise in cases of minors riding two-wheelers, terming the trend a serious road safety concern. In Colva alone, 15 cases of underage riding have been booked, while similar violations have been reported from Margao and Fatorda. Police officials said minors found riding scooters or motorcycles are being proceeded against under the Motor Vehicles Act, which prohibits anyone below 18 from riding on public roads. Parents and guardians are also being held accountable for allowing children to ride illegally. Authorities warned that repeat violations could lead to heavy fines and seizure of vehicles. Stressing that underage riding endangers not only minors but also other road users, police urged parents to take responsibility and discourage children from riding until they are legally eligible.
