MARGAO: Underground power cabling in few areas of the Navelim Constituency has already been done and the remaining work is pending due to administrative approval and financial sanction, said Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro, on Thursday.
Speaking to Herald with regard to the issue of underground power cabling project worth Rs 65 crore in Navelim, he said that Rumdamoll and part of Housing Board have already done with underground power cabling.
“Other panchayats also wanted to commence the work of underground power cabling in their areas simultaneously. But the project is pending because of administrative and financial approvals from the government and the process in on,” he said.
In the wake of power failure due to Cyclone Tauktae Vice President of Aam Admi Party Adv Pratima Coutinho had criticised the MLA for failing to complete the underground power cabling project in Navelim.
“When I took over as an MLA of Navelim in 2017 it was noticed that there were transformers with a capacity of just 6.3 megawatts. On the other side, I had promised three power sub-stations, at Carmona, behind the Navelim Church and near over bridge of Konkan Railway one each. But thereafter nobody had done the follow-up of that,” said Luizinho.
“Now I want to do the same project, but as per the new land acquisition law, the government has to pay Rs 20,000 per square meter, in the case of a project in paddy field, and the government said they don’t have so much money. Hence, I give them a place in Davorlim and now we have started a new sub-station over there of 33 KVA and it will be operational in another two-three months,” informed Luizinho.
