PANJIM: The Electricity Department announced that a special fund proposal has been sent to the Government of Goa for underground cabling.
Power Minister Milind Naik said, “Top priority will be the cities and tourist spots. Underground cabling will first commence in these areas, and later in the rest of the state. Once this plan is carried out, 90 percent of the problems regarding electricity will be solved.” He added that the budget has not been confirmed, as the plan is yet to be discussed.
The Department announced the Restructured Accelerated Power Development Reform Program (RAPDRP), a scheme by the Centre to be implemented in the State. The scheme brings IT to all utility-related functions and will make the department easily accessible to consumers.
Electricity Department launched it new website www.goaelectricity.gov.in which enables online bill payment, and allows consumers to express their grievances and suggestions to the department.
Naik said, “The website was essential for rapid development in the power sector. Goa is the only State that has comparatively very low tariff. The JERC has asked us to increase it and therefore a meeting will be held to discuss the issue.”
The RAPDRP scheme (the website) is initiated to process the work in every sector of the department with smooth flow; without any error. The scheme will also enable the department to track every step within the department.
Power Secretary Kunal IAS said, “IT is very essential for day-to-day life and therefore this is a very good step towards the benefit of the department and the people. This website will conduct comprehensive dialogue with the public.”
