MARGAO: Colva Police Station, which has jurisdiction over all thecoastal villages of Salcete, is severely short staffed, thereby putting a lot of strain on the personnel on duty.
The functioning of this large police station is supervised by a single Police Inspector with no Police Sub Inspector to help him as the only lady PSI has been transferred, though not yet relieved. Of the two other PSIs posted at Colva PS one has been transferred while the other is presently on leave.
The police station has also a shortage of Assistant Sub Inspectors, Head Constables and even Constables, rued a policeman.
Due to the absence of police staff, there are not enough persons to deal with matters at the police station, leave alone carry out
patrolling.
The Colva Police Station has been sanctioned five Police Sub Inspectors of which only two were in place. Of these two, one is on leave, the other one has been transferred.
The staffing woes are particularly pronounced for lady PSIs, as the lone officer is responsible for handling cases not only in Colva but also at Margao, Mana-Curtorim, and Fatorda police stations where there is no designated Lady PSI to handle sensitive cases related to crimes against women and children. Although Colva Police Station is sanctioned 14 Head Constables. it is functioning at present with only three, of which another has just received his transfer order. Thus, there will soon be only two Head Constables.
Things are no different with the police constables. While 51 constables are sanctioned to the Colva PS , there are only 35 posted ,of which five are manning the Cavelossim out post headed by one Assistant Police Inspector, Of the two other ASI posted at Colva, only one is on duty at present as the other has gone on leave.
