PANJIM: An undertrial’s bid to escape from the Goa medical college (GMC) was foiled when two alert Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) constables chased him and pinned him down.
The incident happened on Monday evening when 22-year-old Prakash Parishwad, charged with kidnapping a minor at Agassaim, was brought to the government hospital for a routine check up on Tuesday evening from Sada sub-jail where he is currently lodged.
“Around 7.30pm after the check up, while boarding the escort vehicle, the accused sprinkled some powder which he had collected from the hospital’s casualty toilet.” sources said.
Immediately constable Sunil Gaude chased him and caught him with the help of another constable Videsh Madkaikar. Both constables, attached to Vasco Escorts Cell, overpowered the accused, thus thwarting his escape bid.
The department has announced a cash reward and commendation certificates for them appreciating their alertness and devotion to duty.
