Uneasy truce but no trust; Congress wants to go ahead with disqualification of Kamat, Lobo

Cong organisation does not trust Lobo, Kamat or anyone else from making another attempt to get two-thirds of MLAs to defect; they prefer losing 2 MLAs to losing 8

PANJIM: The State Congress leaders wants to go ahead with the disqualification of its two MLAs Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo even after five rebel Congress MLAs returning back to the party fold and arriving at a truce.

The Congress president Amit Patkar on Monday filed a petition before the Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar seeking disqualification of Leader of the Opposition Michael Lobo and Margao MLA DigambarKamat after the duo along with three others went into incommunicado on Sunday, on the eve of the Assembly session.

The Congress has also informed the Speaker that they have removed Lobo as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) and that a new CLP would be elected soon.

As suspicion grew that the five rebel MLAs could coax other party colleagues to join them for two-third majority, the Congress filed disqualification petition against Kamat and Lobo. By doing this, the Congress had made it little difficult for other MLAs to revolt or to engineer a two-third MLAs required to avoid disqualification.

The Congress is in no mood to withdraw the petition even as Lobo returned to the party fold and requested leaders that he be relieved as the CLP leader. The party leaders are completely unhappy over their behaviour that triggered a political unrest within the organisation in the State. They said that the rebel MLAs had not tendered unconditional apology for their behaviour.

The politics of defections is causing embarrassment to the Congress as Lobo is set for his reverse migration to the BJP.
