PORVORIM: The Ruling and the Opposition on Monday raised the issue of unemployment in Goa claiming that the problem of employment has still not resolved even after the assurance from the State government.
Also Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo took on the Labour and Employment Minister Rohan Khaunte for failure in providing jobs to Goan youth.
“Today it has been one and half year that the State government had promised jobs to the Goan youth but till today the problem of unemployment in the State is still not resolved. The government should work on this,” said Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo.
He said, “Presently the youth of Goa are given a mere salary of Rs 5 to 6 thousand by companies. Some of these youth are temporarily employed and paid a stipend. The minister has to give extra time in resolving this issue.”
Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao informed the house that Goans are harassed by companies while claiming that they are fired from the job and their position on silly reasons and on baseless allegations.
“The government should come check such thing and keep a tab on such harassment done by the companies. Today the Goan youth are just fired from their jobs without any reason and other person is brought in their place. The government should come out on a mechanism,” Alemao said.
Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha demanded that the workers who have worked for 10 years should be permanently employed by the companies.
St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira informed the House that the people are going to Portugal on Portuguese passport by giving up the Indian nationality and said “there are many such youths from his constituency.”
