Panjim: In the wake of heavy rainfall over the last 26 hours in Goa, the true state of Panjim’s so-called ‘smart’ roads has come to light. The downpour has revealed significant flaws in the construction and maintenance of roads in Panjim, St. Cruz, and Taleigao. Residents are contending with deep potholes and unattended cracks, posing risks for both motorists and pedestrians.
Despite previous efforts to repair and hot mix the roads, the situation has not improved. Residents express frustration as the government-appointed contractor has seemingly neglected crucial repairs. Additionally, ongoing smart city work and digging activities in November have further disrupted the roads, leaving them dug up, blocked, and closed. The dire state of the roads raises concerns about the effectiveness and sustainability of the smart city initiatives in the region.
