In a gripping rescue operation that unfolded on Monday, emergency responders from the Mapusa Fire Department displayed remarkable courage and skill as they successfully extricated an unidentified individual who had found himself trapped in the lofty branches of a majestic banyan tree near Kirti Vidyalaya School in Rai Siolim. According to reports, the person was marooned at an astonishing height of 60 to 70 feet above the ground, adding to the complexity of the situation.
As concerned citizens promptly informed the local authorities, a sense of urgency permeated the air, compelling rapid action. In response, teams from the Anjuna Police and Mapusa Fire Brigade sprang into action, converging quickly at the scene to oversee the delicate operation aimed at ensuring the individual’s safe descent from the towering tree.
The remarkable challenge posed by the rugged surroundings and the sheer expansiveness of the tree presented a formidable obstacle to the rescue efforts. Realizing the need for additional resources, the resourceful Mapusa Fire Brigade sought assistance from the Panjim Fire Brigade crane, which proved invaluable during the operation.
Speaking with the locals, Sandeep Shetgaonkar shared his account of the incident, stating that his daughter had been the first to spot the suspicious presence atop the tree. Armed with binoculars, he personally verified the situation before notifying both the Anjuna police and the Mapusa Fire Brigade, who promptly arrived at the scene. Recognizing the importance of specialized equipment, they also sought the help of the Panaji fire station, ensuring that all necessary tools and apparatus were readily available.
Fire personnel present at the spot said that the man who had climbed up a tree refused to come down. Despite their best efforts, the man adamantly refused any assistance, insisting that he would descend on his own. This is the second time that emergency services have been called to the scene, following two separate calls received earlier in the evening, informed fire personnel.
He further added on saying that on the humanitarian aspect of the situation, the fire personnel urged local residents to cooperate by clearing the area surrounding the tree and returning to the safety of their homes. They emphasized that police personnel had also been deployed to ensure the safety of both the curious onlookers and the man perched atop the tree.
After hours of patiently persuading, the individual finally relented and agreed to descend from the tree, taking matters into his own hands. Relief washed over all the concerned authorities as they witnessed the successful rescue mission, knowing that the man was finally safe from harm.
Determined to uncover the truth behind this incident, the police will continue their probe, seeking both the motives and the identity of the individual involved.
