Union wants Honda firm to revoke its notice dismissing 13 workers

VALPOI: The workers union has threatened to strike work from October 17 onwards if the ElSteel company at Honda Industrial Estate fails to revoke its notice dismissing 13 employees.

Accusing the management of revengefully working against them, the workers informed that in 2014, they had gone on a strike over their wage issue. Action was taken against 13 workers but with the intervention of the Labour Commissioner the matter was solved.
Following labour commissioner’s intervention, the Company had given assurance that it would not initiate any action against the workers but suddenly 13 workers were issued the dismissal notice, they informed.
The workers further alleged that the company suddenly issued the notice dismissing 13 workers without giving them any prior notice.
The workers union had extended its full support to the 13 employees and demanded that the company revoke its notice before October 17 or else they have no option but to go on an indefinite strike till their demands are met.
