PANJIM: The opposition members on Monday gave a clarion call to the people of Goa to lend its voice to save Mhadei river and called each and every Goan to step out of their homes and save Mhadei waters from being diverted by Karnataka.
Speaking to mediapersons outside the Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao said that Goa’s identify is at stake. “Today is historic Opinion Poll Day and we took blessings of architects of the Opinion Poll. Every Goan should now join the battle to protect Mhadei. The government is only worried about selling Mhadei river and not worried about Goa and its interest. Mhadei is paramount for us so as to protect our identity. If we don’t have a flowing river then we will lose our identity. So we invite all Chalo Sankhali.”
Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira said, “It is beginning of another revolution. Goa exists because of the Opinion Poll and if there is no Mhadei then there is no Goa.”
Adv Ferreira said that everyone should come together in the fight to save Mhadei river and oppose any attempt to divert its water by Karnataka. He said that he will attend Save Goa Save Mhadei meeting at Amona-Virdi.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said, “We have given a slogan Chalo Sankhali. He said that they will create an organic movement which will have resistance at grassroot level. People should unite at grassroot level and march forward and it is beginning today with our slogan Chalo Sankhali. All Goans should join this movement to Save Mhadei.”
