United Goans Foundation asks Election Commissioner to stall delimitation process

MARGAO: United Goans Foundation (UGF) on Tuesday requested the Election Commissioner to stay the process and postpone the deadline of submission of inputs by public till such a time that the map of delimitation along with all details is made available to the them, stating that it is impossible for a common citizen to be involved in the process of providing inputs towards delimitation merely based on house numbers.

Dr Ashish Kamat, President UGF,”We have requested to inspect the plan of delimited boundaries so as to understand the inclusion of new areas as mapped and as required by the statute for better understanding of ground reality. We had also asked the Mamlatdar if the same is uploaded on the website along with the map,” he said.

Dr Ashish further said that they were informed by the Mamlatdar that the Map is not included for public inspection.

“Hence we would like to object to the incomplete and incorrect process adopted by the Goa SEC wherein the map hasn’t been provided to the citizens and further that the Government is trying to rush through the process without following proper protocol and procedure,” he added.

UGF has brought to the notice of EC that the right of every constituent to be taken into consideration and that proper public consultation be undertaken through a gram sabha, where every aspect is delved upon to the understating of the constituents so then he can put forth his views and objections to the Government which in this case is not followed and the public are kept in the dark.
