MARGAO: The residents of Ambora in Camorlim, Salcete, are facing an acute water shortage, adding to the struggles of the common man in the area. The situation has deteriorated over the past few days, leaving people without access to basic necessities. Efforts are being made to address the crisis through temporary measures initiated by local MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, who is tapping water from the JICA line at Uzro directly to Camorlim.
While some residents have managed to procure branded water cans, the majority rely on springs and other natural resources for their drinking water needs. Citizens have raised concerns about government authorities granting permissions for buildings and projects without ensuring the fulfilment of basic amenities, which has resulted in water scarcity for the local population. Some have even alleged that the depletion of wells and springs can be attributed to bore wells operating in industrial areas, over which the government seemingly lacks control.
Satyawan Kamat, a resident of Ambora, elaborated on the suffering endured by the people due to the lack of proper water supply.
He noted that pipeline repair work has only just begun, despite numerous complaints from residents. The officials from the Public Works Department have cited electricity-related
issues as their excuse for
the delay.
Anthony Fernandes, another resident, highlighted the confusion among the locals as the authorities struggled to identify the faults in the pipeline. However, he mentioned that the local MLA arranged for water tankers to provide some relief to the affected residents.
