UP native arrested for offering girl for sex; victim rescued

CALANGUTE: The Calangute Police arrested an alleged pimp from Uttar Pradesh and rescued a victim girl in a raid at a place in Calangute, on Friday.
The raid was conducted by a police team led by Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi in the presence of a member of Scan India, an NGO.
PI Dalvi said that he received information from sources that one person was supplying girls for sex in Calangute and its surrounding area. Accordingly, a mobile number was circulated of a person pretending to be a customer.
Later, the decoy customer established contact with the alleged pimp and asked for the delivery of the victim girl. As soon as the location of the alleged pimp was found in Calangute area, PI Dalvi along with a member of NGO set out and laid a trap at Tivaivado, Calangute.
And when the alleged pimp was spotted with the victim girl, the police apprehended them and brought them to the police station. The statement of the victim girl who is a native of Uttar Pradesh was recorded in the presence of NGO member and she was subsequently lodged in the protective Home, Merces for safe custody after obtaining an order from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mapusa.
The alleged pimp is identified as 27-year-old Irfan Khan, a resident of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. An offence under section 370 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 4, 5, 7 of Immoral Traffic Prevention Act 1956 has been registered against the accused.
During the raid, the police have attached an Activa scooter, cash of Rs 20,000, two mobile phones and other articles. The accused has been remanded in police custody for two days by the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Mapusa.
